Origins, also known as Excavation Site 64 and Dig Site, is a Zombies map included in the Apocalypse downloadable content for Call of Duty: Black Ops II released on August 27, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and on September 26, 2013 for the Playstation 3 and PC. It is the seventeenth (chronologically the first) Zombies level.


The \"original characters\" (younger versions of Dempsey, Nikolai, Richtofen, and Takeo) return as the four playable characters. The zombies have yellow eyes in this map. The map features Wonder Weapons that harness supernatural powers, a Panzer Soldat, the Mark IV Tank, a new utility that gives a random Perk-a-Cola and new Power-Ups. Revealed in the cinematic intro of Origins, zombies in typical crusader attire appear, but only spawn in certain areas (the four entrances to The Crazy Place and the main Excavation Site in the center of the map). Unlike typical zombies, the crusader zombies have purple eyes; possibly because they may be the original zombies not controlled by any Demonic Announcer and are exclusively affected by the Element 115. The crusader zombies also make different noises than the normal zombies.

Six generators are found across the map, which act as replacements for the classic Power Switch, and only power the area around it. If they are all powered at once, they activate the reskinned Pack-a-Punch Machine. For the first time, the Mystery Box requires power to be used. The Generators also power perk machines, although there are only 5 conventional perk machines and there are no machines at Generators 2 and 6. There are no new perks, but rather a machine called Der Wunderfizz, that gives the player a random perk bottle when activated, much like the Mystery box.

The three Giant Robots: Freya, Odin and Thor (from left to right, facing towards Generator 5 from Generator 4) travel across the map in their respective \"lanes\" and will instantly down players when they step on them unless the player shoots the glowing foot or the player has a golden helmet.

There are three new power-ups: Zombie Blood, which masks the player with zombie blood, in which they see reddish-orange, get an increased FOV, and Zombies and Panzer Soldats don\'t attack the player, Blood Money, which is obtained using the Shovel on graves. Blood Money is similar to Bonus Points, as it gives the player a random amount of points when obtained, and Empty Perk Bottle, which gives the player an additional perk slot.

Buildables also return, featuring four Elemental Staffs (the Staff of Lightning, the Staff of Fire, the Staff of Ice, and the Staff of Wind), the Zombie Shield with a new dieselpunk aesthetic and the Maxis Drone, which is similar to the MQ-27 Dragonfire, only using Dr. Maxis\' brain. The Maxis Drone, after deployed, will follow the player, shooting at Zombies and reviving downed players.

Players can also use Shovels at certain spots to dig up certain items. These may hold beneficial items, like a weapon, Power-Up, or staff part. They may also spawn something hazardous, like a Zombie or a live grenade.

The Demonic Announcer for this map is Samantha Maxis as a young girl.


Two new enemies, the Giant Robots and the Panzer Soldat.

A new Utility Vehicle named the Mark IV Tank.

Five new Buildables: the Maxis Drone and the Elemental Staffs.

A new \"Major\" Easter Egg, called Little Lost Girl.

Challenges are now in Zombies.

A new way of gaining Perks, the Der Wunderfizz machine.

Three new Power-Ups: Zombie Blood, Blood Money, and Empty Perk Bottle.

A Shovel that can be used to dig up Zombies, Weapons, Staff parts, Power-Ups and live grenades.

The G-Strike, which acts like a more powerful Monkey Bomb.

The One Inch Punch, a powerful melee weapon.

Perk Machines and the Mystery Box are now powered by generators rather than one Power Switch

Mark IV Tank

The Mark IV tank is a rideable vehicle that appears in the zombies map Origins included in the Apocalypse downloadable pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

The Mark IV Tank can be found under the church near the back of the map and costs 500 points to activate. When it is moving, it won\'t stop until it gets to the building near Generator 2, which is labeled with a sign that says \"Tank Station\", where the engine will have to cool down, which takes at least two minutes, before it can be used again, which takes less time the fewer players stand on it while it is moving. It will then continue on to the church when activated by the player, where it will once again have to cool down. It will only travel on the muddy area of the map where players would normally slow down and takes approximately 55 seconds to travel from one location to the next.

The Tank itself is very similar to the Bus on TranZit, in ways as such players can utilize the tank as a defensive platform and can move across certain parts of the map in a safer fashion. It is possible for zombies to jump onto the tank and attack the players while it is moving, but sometimes the Tank will use the flamethrowers on the sides and fires at nearby zombies to prevent this. There are numerous gaps in the sections of muddy trenches that lead into another trench where normally the player must jump down to continue, but the tank crosses these large gaps. The tank can be called from the Tank Station and the church for 500 points from the switch beside where the tank stops. The tank can only be called to the location after it has been used once. The tank is needed to make the Staff of Lightning, as the player needs to reach high areas that are normally not accessable without proper elevation to acquire parts.

When taking the Tank around after the Lightning Staff parts have been obtained, once per round, a random Power-Up will be at each jump-off location.

There is one destroyed tank by Generator 5 and another can be seen outside the map via noclipping

Maxis Drone

The Maxis Drone shooting.



The Maxis Drone is seen in the Call of Duty: Black Ops II Zombies map Origins. It is a buildable automated quadrotor. Once deployed, it will fly around the player shooting nearby zombies, acquiring Power-Ups and reviving downed players. The Maxis Drone weapon is the MG08/15. It will last about 90 seconds before it needs to recharge and returns to the workbench it was built at, unable to be picked up by the player until it recharges. It is also needed to collect four small yellow disks located around the map, which when the player is next to the disk locations the drone will fly to the disk and collect it. Once all four have been located, there is an upgraded MG08/15 (Magna Collider) in front of the Pack-a-Punch Machine able to be picked up by anyone.

It can be upgraded during the events of the Little Lost Girl easter egg. After shooting down the red glowing biplane, a phantom zombie will start to circle the excavation site. It will only become visible when the player obtains Zombie Blood. After killing it, the Maxis Drone will respawn and can be picked up. It will be sent back to the recharging station where its built-in gun is now Pack-a-Punched.

Once all the yellow disks have been collected, a free Magna Collider (upgraded MG08/15) will be waiting at the Pack-a-Punch. Anyone can grab the Magna Collider.

One Inch Punch

Weapon Class - Wonder Weapon (melee)

The One Inch Punch is a melee upgrade that replaces the player\'s standard knife in the Zombies map Origins. It allows the player to punch zombies with a powerful force, causing zombies to fly away, similarly to the Thundergun from Call of Duty: Black Ops. It can kill a zombie with a single melee attack until round 19.

In order to obtain it, the player must charge up four chests that are located throughout the map, by killing 30 zombies near them. If a Giant Robot steps on a chest while it\'s not yet full, it will be reset, and the players will have to kill more zombies. Once completed, players can go to a Rituals of the Ancients station and they will be rewarded with the One Inch Punch, in the form of a glowing energy ball.

The four chests are located as follows: one is in the Robot footprint next to Generator 5/Stamin-up, another is in the Robot footprint to the left of the first entrance to the excavation site, another is in the Robot footprint to the right of Generator 4/Juggernog (not the footprint containing the wind portal), and finally one in the Robot footprint outside the Church, on the side closest to the excavation site. Each chest must be filled with 30 zombie souls. Odin (the Giant Robot who patrols the center of the map), is a major hindrance, as he has the potential to close three of the chests in one go.

Should a player bleed out and lose their One Inch Punch, or otherwise not be present in game when the chests are completed and the Punch is unlocked, the player in question must simply go to a Ritual of the Ancients station, highlight their crosshair over the bottom-most medal, and press the action button. The Punch will then be re-obtainable for the player.

Iron Fists

The One Inch Punch can be upgraded during the Little Lost Girl easter egg, after killing a certain number of glowing Templar zombies in the staff room with the One Inch Punch. After killing the amount, a power-up resembling a stone for the G-Strike will be dropped. It gains a one hit kill attack until round 36 and appears to affect zombies with which staff the player was holding at the time the player obtained the upgrade.


The One Inch Punch is a reference to a martial exercise move of the same name in which a person is knocked back several feet from a punch only one inch away popularized by actor and martial artist Bruce Lee.

The upgraded One Inch Punch is the strongest melee attack in Zombies.

The Elemental Staffs are buildable Wonder Weapons that appear in the Zombies map Origins in Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

The four Staffs included in the map are as follows:

Staff of Lightning

Staff of Fire

Staff of Ice

Staff of Wind

Part Locations

The Staff of Wind parts are located in the three Giant Robots.

The Staff of Lightning parts are obtained through accessing areas of the map with the Tank.

The Staff of Ice parts can be dug up while its snowing. Each part is found in a different robot \"lane\", like the wind parts.

The Staff of Fire parts are obtained by activating the 6th 115 Generator, shooting down the glowing plane, and killing the first Panzer Soldat, which appears on round 8.

The upgraded staffs are all named after deities of the following mythologies:

The Staff of Lightning (Kimat\'s Bite) is named after Kimat, the Dog of the Tinguian God, Kadaklan.

The Staff of Fire (Kagutsuchi\'s Blood) is named after the Japanese God of Fire, Kagutsuchi.

The Staff of Ice (Ull\'s Arrow) is named after Ull, a Norse God commonly associated with winter.

The Staff of Wind (Boreas\' Fury) is named after Boreas, the Greek God of the North Wind.

Sekhmet\'s Vigor, the end part of the staff used to instantly revive a downed player, is named after Sekhmet, the Egyptian warrior Goddess of healing

Double Tap Root Beer will work with Sekhmet\'s Vigor.

Once upgraded, all of the Staffs will have a different weapon switch animation that has a longer duration.

All elemental staffs are fully automatic but when upgraded they will charge their shot.

The ammo of the elemental staffs increase by three shots in the order:

Wind three shots

Ice six shots

Fire nine shots

Lightning twelve shots

When the elemental staffs are upgraded, this number of shots increases by three (except the lightning staff gets six more shots)

After upgrading, blades come out of the top of each staff. This is easily seen on the Staff of Ice.

How to Upgrade Fire Staff to Kagutsuchi\'s Blood

The killzone where the player has to kill zombies with the Staff of Fire.

Once the player has picked up the Staff of Fire, they must return to The Crazy Place, and solve the riddle located on the Fire part of the map, where the gateway back is located. The player simply has to use the staff to kill zombies while they are on the metal grates in order to light up the nearby cauldrons. One will know it is working when zombies explode into a cloud of smoke on death, and the cauldrons with the symbols will all be lit and once all four are done, an audio cue by Samantha will signify that the riddle has been solved.

Once the riddle in The Crazy Place has been completed, the player must return to the original realm and solve the riddle there. On the basement floor of the church, there are several unlit torches with several numbers on them, along with an unlit torch with a bloodstain below it (which represents the number 4). Using patterns found on the main church floor walls, the player must convert those patterns using the ternary numeral system into numbers. Using the symbols that are lit up and having converted them, the player must now use the Staff of Fire to light up the corresponding torches in the basement. The symbols (from left to right) are: 11, 5, 9, 7, 6, 3, and 4. There will only be four symbols lit up, and you must light up the corresponding torches with the Staff of Fire.

The player now has to return to the bottom of the Excavation Zone, where there is now a fire orb. Now in the lower section of the Excavation Zone align the rings above the fire orb via the four switches scattered around in this same area so that all the gems are red. The player with the Staff of Fire must shoot the fire orb, which will cause the orb to fly into the air and return to The Crazy Place. Once done, the player must now go back to The Crazy Place, where the staff can be placed onto the Fire pedestal. The player must kill zombies in The Crazy Place, so that the zombie \"souls\" get attracted to the staff and power it up. After killing a fair amount of zombies, an audio cue by Samantha will indicate to the player that the staff is powered up and upgraded to Kagutsuchi\'s Blood. The staff can now be picked up by any player.

How to Upgrade to Lightning Staff to Kimat\'s Bite

Once the player has picked up the Staff of Lightning, they must return to The Crazy Place, and solve the riddle located on the Lightning part of the map, where the gateway back is located. There are three staffs of music located to the left of the gateway, and to the right is a \"keyboard\". In the treble clef, the player must play those three chords on the \"keyboard\" in order to complete the riddle by shooting the corresponding \"key\" with the lightning staff. The three chords & a keyboard diagram are displayed below. *(Numbering the bottom row 1-7 from left to right 613 357 462 is the easiest combo to remember)* Once all three chords have been played, an audio cue by Samantha will signify that the riddle has been solved.

How to Upgrade Ice Staff to Ull\'s Arrow

Once the player has picked up the Staff of Ice, they must return to The Crazy Place, and solve the riddle located on the Ice part of the map, where the gateway back is located. There is a panel of ice nearby, which will have dots in various patterns which are base-3 representations of numbers, along with panels made of stone and ice floating in the air above the Ice gateway zone which have symbols which are base-4 representations of numbers. The player must use the pattern shown on the ice panel, in order to determine which stone panel to shoot with the Staff of Ice, which when done correctly will cause the stone to flip around. To complete the riddle, all 6 stone panels must be flipped. There are 12 different patterns which can appear on the ice panel, but only 6 will appear, one for each stone tablet.

The player must now return to the original realm and locate three gravestones with water flowing out of them, shoot them with the Staff of Ice, causing it to freeze, then shoot it with another weapon, causing it to explode but, that weapon can\'t be the Raygun or the Raygun mark II. The three locations of the gravestones are:

To the right of the MP-40 near Generator 4.

In the giant mech\'s right footprint leading into the trenches, facing the excavation zone next to a mounted body.

On top of the small hill when going right from the back exit of the bunker next to Generator 2, next to the downed mech\'s hand.

The player now has to return to the bottom of the Excavation Zone, where there is now an Ice orb. After aligning the rings above the orb via the four switches in the lower section so that all the gems are blue, the player with the Staff of Ice must shoot the orb, which will cause the orb to fly into the air and return to The Crazy Place. Once done, the player must now go back to The Crazy Place, where the staff can be placed onto the Ice pedestal. The player must kill zombies in The Crazy Place, so that the zombie \"souls\" get attracted to the staff and power it up. After killing a fair amount of zombies, an audio cue by Samantha will indicate to the player that the staff is powered up and upgraded to Ull\'s Arrow. The staff can now be picked up by any player.
